Coastal cities face one of the great challenges of our time: adapting to the effects of climate change without compromising their social and economic development. Within this framework, the General Manager of the Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation, Laureà Fanega, participated in the event organized by Prensa Ibérica, on the panel “Blue Mediterranean: science, sustainability and prosperity”, in a conversation shared with Oriol Puig.

During his intervention, Fanega highlighted the role of the Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation and the solid blue economy ecosystem concentrated in Barcelona, a key environment for driving innovation and moving towards a more sustainable maritime model. He also highlighted the opportunity represented by the city hosting Advance Maritime Technology 2027, one of the leading international trade fairs focused on decarbonization and the application of new technologies to nautical activities and navigation.

Subsequently, in statements to El Periódico, Fanega underlined the importance of the Barcelona Manifesto, a roadmap developed by the DCC-SOE Ocean Economy Barcelona, aimed at boosting coastal resilience globally and which will be presented this autumn within the framework of Tomorrow Blue Economy. According to the General Manager, the document will serve to define principles and commitments that help cities protect marine ecosystems and strengthen social cohesion while promoting sustainable development.

With this participation, the Foundation reinforces its commitment to innovation, sustainability and coastal protection, positioning Barcelona as an international benchmark in science-based solutions to face the global challenges of the Mediterranean and the blue economy.
