The university initiative RC Sailing Barcelona, driven by Sail Rush and Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica, has been recognized as an Ocean Decade Activity within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030, coordinated by UNESCO.

This recognition incorporates the project into the international network of actions that contribute to promoting the science, innovation, and knowledge necessary to advance towards a more sustainable ocean. It also reinforces the international projection of an initiative that brings nautical sports and sailing closer to new generations of engineers.

Training, innovation, and university talentTraining, innovation, and university talent

RC Sailing Barcelona is an educational project that invites third and fourth-year engineering students to design and build competitive wind-powered radio-controlled boats. During the process, participants apply knowledge acquired at university in areas such as naval design, mechanics, materials, aerodynamics, and electronics.

Through this challenge, students develop technical and teamwork skills that bring them closer to the maritime sector and professional opportunities linked to the blue economy.

The initiative aims to foster navigation technologies, stimulate applied innovation, and introduce the world of sailing to university talent, becoming a gateway to the sector for future professionals.

A project aligned with the major challenges of the oceans

The incorporation of RC Sailing Barcelona into the Ocean Decade program recognizes the project’s contribution to objectives such as ocean education, knowledge transfer, capacity building, and the promotion of innovative solutions linked to the sea.

With this new step, the initiative consolidates its contribution to a blue economy based on knowledge, innovation, sustainability, and young talent, while also reinforcing the role of Barcelona as a city committed to the major global challenges of the oceans.

This international endorsement also opens new collaboration opportunities with the scientific community, research centers, international institutions, public administrations, and strategic stakeholders of the blue economy globally.
